Ernesto Sabato earned his doctorate in Physics and worked on atomic radiation at the Curie Laboratory in France until 1945, when he dropped science to devote himself exclusively to literature. His novels and essays have made an impact on generations of readers, who consider him a ‘fellow traveller’ for his proximity to human experience. He has received a great deal of recognition for the quality of his work as well as his coherent work as a defender of human rights. His work has affected many different generations of readers, making Sabato a canonical writer in Argentinian literature and an important figure in the philosophy and defence of human rights. Sabato's work has been translated into more than 35 languages.
