Isidoro Blaisten

ARGENTINA, 1933 - 2004

Isidoro Blaisten is held to be one of the greatest Argentinian short story writers. His inimitable humour, his masterly treatment of colloquial language and brilliant verbal inventiveness create a literary space unique in its freshness of language and dynamism of imagination. Blaisten knows how to get the most out of the trivial and mundane. He was a member of the Argentinian Academy of Letters since 2001 and a corresponding member of the Spanish Royal Academy.

"One of the best storytellers of his generation, the most read

and the most popular after Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar.”

El País

"Blaisten belongs to that vein of storytellers of the absurd that,

in the space between uproarious laughter and hair-raising shivers,

reveals to us all the nuances of the spectrum of existence.”

Le Nouvel Observateur

“The talent of Isidoro Blaisten resides in a fusion of all these elements:

the expressionism of Roberto Arlt, the epic quality of Leopoldo Marechal,

and the playful inventiveness of Julio Cortázar.”
