NOVEL. ALFAGUARA, 2019. 188 PAGES
In November 2017, the journalist Margarita Serrano finally lost a long battle with cancer. Devastated, her sister Marcela found solace in a country retreat and writing: it was the only way for her cope with the sadness, anger and uncertainty.
It is this exceptional emotional state that appears in these pages, where, as the days pass, the author knits a blanket with which to cover her sister and anyone else left exposed to the elements after her death. The result is a moving, sad and luminous set of notes - which leap from one thought to another, just like the grieving process - which Marcela Serrano collected with lucidity and courage in the year after ‘M' passed away, a year of refuge and memory, a little music and the banishment of self-pity. The Blanket is her most personal book yet.
"A beautiful and lucid work about loss in which there is also room for hope."
