Philosophy and literature

Pablo De Santis

NOVEL. DESTINO, 1998. 207 PAGES.

Of the work of the genius writer Homero Brocca, only a single story, told in infinite different versions, remains. However, there are clues to be found on the fifth floor of the crumbling building that houses the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature; his secret masterpiece lies hidden among tons of abandoned papers. The narrator, Esteban Miró, meets three critics trawling through the paper labyrinth, competing to be the first to have the honour of being Brocca’s sole executor, seeing the role of literary critic as being akin to that of a religious minister. The path to Brocca will soon be littered with dead bodies, an enigma that can only be explained when the writer’s secret papers are finally read.

Philosophy and Literature is a spell cast by a writer with something of the wizard about him, who can open the door to a different, surprising world governed by dark, peculiar laws. With his unusual perspective, Pablo De Santis leads us into a new, intense reality, full of ruined buildings and beings who manage to survive in a world of spectres, inviting us into his territory to witness an unforgettable experience.
