NOVEL, 1985. EDITION BY ADRIANA HIDALGO EDITORA, 2008. 252 PAGES
Shadows, nothing else... is the last book by Antonio Di Benedetto. The author published it in 1985, a year before his death. In December of that year, the novel received the Boris Vian Award, at that time one of the most prestigious distinctions in the Argentine literary field.
As in Zama, The Silentiary and The Suicides, where the protagonists are journalists, frustrated writers, or literary officials who relate in a particular way to the written word, this novel opens with the presence of an Argentine journalist living in Spain who is granted a scholarship to live for several months on a North American island in the Atlantic. There, a narrative begins that is the same as the one the reader holds in his hands. Real experience and fiction intertwine; author, character and narrator contaminate and at times merge. In Shadows, nothing else... Di Benedetto superimposes dissimilar times and spaces and invites the reader to interpret the novel in an autobiographical key.
