Manuel Puig

ARGENTINA, 1932-1990

Manuel Puig created a unique body of work out of Hollywood films, conversations with neighbors and a judicious combination of realism and melodrama. After the appearance of his early novels he had a string of successes, which opened up the worlds of cinema and theatre and brought him international prestige.

“It is his mastery of plot and counter-plot and the intrigues

-those of his characters and his own- that elevate Puig

to the level of his peers (Borges and García Marquez).”

Washington Post

“The brilliantly inventive Argentinian novelist.”

The New York Times

“The more serious I get in real life, the weirder the things I write. That’s why one of my favorite writers is Manuel Puig, who has such a free imagination. I find a very strong point in common between his literature and mine.”

Haruki Murakami
