The House of Words

CHILDREN, SIGLO XXI. 2025, 80 PAGES

Words are magical because they allow us to name what we think, what we feel, and what we hope for. But sometimes they play tricks on us, like when they get stuck on the tip of our tongue and we can’t find them.
Galeano was a great storyteller.
That’s why words were so important to him: he treasured them, studied them, recited them, and sometimes, like any of us, lost them. He preferred to write by hand: he said he liked to feel his sentences in his fist. Perhaps because they were born there, sheltered, Galeano’s words have the enormous capacity to invite us to fly.
