Leopoldo Brizuela was born in 1963 in La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied Literature at the University of La Plata. He was a narrator, poet and translator.
His first novel, Tejiendo agua (Knitting Water), written at the age of seventeen, won the 1985 Fortabat Prize. England. A fable won the Clarín Novel Prize 1999 and the Municipal Prize of the City of Buenos Aires, and was published in several countries, with acclaimed reviews in international media such as Le Monde, El País and La Folha de São Paulo.
In 2012 she won the Alfaguara Novel Prize for The Same Night, and received two Konex awards: one in 2004 in the Short Story category: five-year period 1999-2003, and another in 2014 in the Novel category, period 201-2013.
He has translated Henry James, Flannery O’Connor and Eudora Welty, among other authors. He was writer-in-residence at the Banff Center For the Arts, Canada; at the International Writing Program of the University of Iowa, and received a grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation of Lisbon for the study of Portuguese culture. He is a regular contributor to the newspapers Clarín and La Nación, and coordinated creative writing workshops.
