NOVEL. LITERATURA RANDOM HOUSE, 2020. 136 PAGES.
‘That was how I became a writer, humbly copying and arrogantly re-writing the things I admired.'
On the Monday it was announced that he had won a literary award. On the Tuesday he was accused of having plagiarised some newspaper articles. On the Thursday he was accused of having stolen the subject of the novel that won the award. The following Monday, seventy-nine writers signed a letter demanding that he return the award and resign from his university position where he had built up a small empire. That Wednesday, he refused the award and resigned. On the same day he learned that his wife had been in touch with the man running the campaign against him. The Monday of the following week he was played a recording of a phone call between his wife and rival. That Thursday his rival was found stabbed to death. On the Friday, he received a visit from the police. All this requires an explanation.
This novel is that explanation: a game of mirrors revolving around plagiarism, admiration, envy,
jealousy, chance, death. And the police.
